Fabric pricing by the metre for Shopify

In short: Trimsize lets a fabric shop sell any length on Shopify. Customers type how much they need, the length rounds up to your cutting increment, and the price is the cut length times the fabric's rate per metre or foot, with a minimum cut; it's one cart line with the length on it, and Shopify charges exactly that at checkout.

What your customers get

  • The length their project needs, like 2.33 m, instead of a quantity of "1 metre" units.
  • Fabrics as colour swatches, each with its width shown, such as 140 cm wide.
  • Treatments and extras, like a fire retardant finish, priced in.
  • A price that matches the cut, shown before they add to cart.

Priced the way you cut

Fabric is cut to an increment, usually 10 cm or half a metre, and Trimsize rounds the length up to it before pricing. In the starter, linen at $24.00 a metre ordered at 2.33 m is cut at 2.4 m, $57.60, and $69.12 with the fire retardant treatment at +20%. The shortest and longest cut are the product's size limits. Yards aren't a unit: sell in feet at a third of the yard price. The fabric by the metre guide covers increments, minimums and units.

From order to the cutting table

Each line says the fabric, the length and the treatment, so the cutting list is the order list. On Pro, the production queue totals the metres of each fabric your open orders need, so you know what to reorder.

Questions

Can I set a minimum cut?

Yes. The shortest length you'll cut is the product's minimum size, for example 0.5 m, and shorter lengths can't be ordered.

Can I cut to half metres instead of 10 cm?

Yes. Change the rounding in the product's formula to the next half metre, and check a few lengths in the live preview before saving.

Can I sell many fabrics without setting each one up?

Yes. Put several fabrics on one product as materials, or price a whole collection of products from one shared template.
