Quickstart

From install to your first custom-size order.

After you install Trimsize it opens in your Shopify admin, on Home. Home starts with the Set up Trimsize guide: five steps, with a bar showing how many are done.

Set up your first product

  1. Start from your trade's prices

Under What do you make?, choose your Trade (for example Vinyl banner), click Choose product, then Set up pricing. Trimsize creates a template with example prices for that trade and puts it on the product. Change the example prices to yours under Templates: see Pricing editor.

For Garage & roller doors and Blinds & curtains the button is Set up and paste prices: it opens the product's pricing with an empty price table to paste your supplier's prices into, instead of making a template.

  2. Add the Trimsize block to your product page

Click Add block in theme editor. The theme editor opens on your product template with the block ready to add. Save the theme. The editor needs a product page to show, so publish at least one product to your Online Store first. Show me how opens Product page block.

In themes like Savor, add the block inside the product details group, then move it above the Buy buttons. The step ticks itself once the block is on your theme. If Trimsize couldn't check your theme, click Mark as done yourself.

  3. Check a configured product shows one price

Keep your theme's Price block: on configured products the Trimsize block hides it and shows the price for the size, and your other products keep their price. Open a configured product; if you still see two prices, click Open theme editor and remove the Price block from that product's template. Then click Mark as done.

  4. Price your products

Click Go to Products and price your other products from a template, or one at a time. See Products.

  5. Place a test order

Click View your store, open a configured product, enter a size and buy it. The cart shows the calculated price, and checkout charges it. The step ticks itself when the order comes in, or click Mark as done.

Click a step to open it; the next one not done opens by itself. When all five are done, the guide folds into one line, Setup complete, with Show steps to open it again. To hide the guide, choose Dismiss guide from its ⋯ menu, or click × on the Setup complete line. Your progress and the dismissal are saved for your shop, so they're the same in every browser and for all your staff.

Rather we did it? Until your setup is done, Home also has We'll set up your first product, free: send us your price list, or book a setup call.

What Home shows

Banners at the top flag what stops your store selling at the right price:

BannerWhat it means
Shoppers can't size or price your productsThe Trimsize block isn't on your product page (a theme change can remove it), so configured products show your theme's catalog price. Click Add block in theme editor. If your theme doesn't support app blocks on the product page, the banner says so, with Read about themes.
The size check at checkout is offYou turned it off in Checkout rules, so configured products can be bought without their size. Click Open Checkout rules to turn it back on. See the size check.

Trimsize checks its setup every time you open it. If something fails, a Setup incomplete banner appears on every page with the cause and the next step: usually approving a permission Shopify asks for, or reloading the app.

Until your test order is done, Home shows how many Products priced, with Go to Products. After it, or once you dismiss the guide, This week shows four cards. Click one to open the list behind it:

  • Due this week: open items due by Sunday, and how many are late. Pro
  • Waiting on proofs: proofs your customers haven't answered, and how many asked for changes. Pro
  • Needs attention: products with pricing that are draft, archived or not updated. Opens that tab on Products.
  • Products priced: how many products have pricing, and on the free plan how many of the 5 you use.

The order cards need order access: click Allow access to orders the first time. Refresh reads your orders again.

Material for this week Pro lists how much of each material this week's open items need, waste included, with Open Production for the full queue. Items without a due date aren't counted: set Days to make in their pricing to date them.

On the free plan, the Your plan card shows what the free plan includes and what Pro adds. The line at the bottom of Home shows your plan with See plans or Change plan, and links to How it works, Help docs, Free setup help (an email asking for a setup call), our support email, Terms and Privacy. See Plans.
